South Shields ice cream parlour Minchella & Co launches winter menu - including two new vegan treats

A popular ice-cream parlour has launched its new winter menu - and it includes two tempting new vegan flavours.

Following the introduction of their full vegan and dairy-free menu this summer and the vegan chocolate ‘flake’, Minchella & Co have hit the sweet spot again with two new creations free from animal products for the winter months.

The South Shields-based ice-cream artists have come up with a vegan Lemon Drizzle Cake Sundae and a Belgian Chocolate Orange Milkshake to be rolled out in the company’s parlours on Ocean Road and Sea Road on Friday, November 22.

The Lemon Drizzle Cake Sundae includes the new vegan Limoncello ice cream - made from the essential oils of Sicilian lemons - madagascan vanilla ice cream, vegan lemon frosted sponge and Limoncello sauce.

Minchella & Co's Christmas pudding ice-cream sundae will be available from Friday, November 22.

The milkshake, meanwhile, is a concoction of rich, dairy-free Belgium chocolate orange ice-cream, organic oat milk and vegan cream, topped off with the vegan flaked milk chocolate.

“Since we introduced the vegan menu there have been calls for more products in that line,” said Jonnie Halling, Minchella & Co production manager.

“When we launch a new product or flavour we usually have a bit of an indication of how it’s going to sell, but the dairy free and vegan one is still quite a niche, so we didn’t know if it was going to be a success or not.

“It has exceeded our expectations and is selling just as well as any of the other flavours.”

Minchella & Co's vegan Limoncello ice-cream sundae will be available from Friday, November 22.

He added: “From the interest we have seen, we are just hoping we can supply the demand.”

Both the Limoncello and Belgium chocolate orange flavours are available in full dairy versions and there are new Christmas products to choose from for non-vegans too, including their award-winning Christmas pudding ice-cream.

The festive flavour can be served in a sundae, with vanilla ice cream, sweet vanilla sauce, raspberry and cranberry sauce, cream and ground mixed spice, or on a hot waffle.

All of the new flavours will be available to try and to take home in limited edition one litre packs at the South Tyneside Christmas Market at Haven Point on Saturday, November 16.
