Photo shows damage to South Shields Pier caused by Storm Ingrid
South Shields Pier has once again suffered damage due to the weather.
On Friday (January 23), dramatic photos showed huge waves crashing against South Shields Lighthouse and the pier as high winds brought stormy seas to the borough.
Then on Saturday, January 24, Steven Lomas, a photographer from South Shields, captured a photo of the pier that appears to show fresh damage to the structure.
The latest damage follows the dome of South Shields Lighthouse being ripped off as a result of Storm Babet in October 2023.
As a result, the pier had to be closed to members of the public to ensure that repair work could be carried out.
The Shields Gazette has contacted the Port of Tyne for a comment.
