7 players confirmed out of Newcastle United v Bournemouth as Magpies suffer worrying injury blow

Newcastle United injury news: Fabian Schar’s injury has given Eddie Howe an extra headache ahead of their clash with Bournemouth.

Newcastle United face Bournemouth in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon (3pm kick-off).

Eddie Howe’s side will head into that game on the back of three successive wins following their chaotic 4-3 victory over Leeds United on Wednesday night. Andoni Iraola’s side, meanwhile, put an end to their disastrous run of form with a win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Antoine Semenyo netted a late winner for the Cherries at the Vitality Stadium, but won’t feature at St James’ Park this weekend as he concludes a transfer to Manchester City. It is anticipated that both Iraola and Howe will rotate their teams this weekend after a hectic festive fixture schedule and, for the hosts, ahead of some crucial Premier League, Carabao Cup and Champions League games facing them this month.

Here, we take a look at the latest injury news from both camps ahead of Newcastle United’s clash with Bournemouth in the FA Cup.

Bournemouth injury news v Newcastle United

Justin Kluivert - out

Kluivert netted a hat-trick on his last appearance at St James’ Park almost a year ago. He won’t get an opportunity to replicate that this weekend, however, as he has been ruled-out of action with a knee injury.

Tyler Adams - out

A knee injury will also rule Adams out of this weekend’s game. There is hope that the midfielder will be able to return next month.

Ben Gannon-Doak - out

Gannon-Doak will not feature for the Cherries on Tyneside on Saturday as he continues to nurse a hamstring injury. The former Liverpool man has been ruled-out for a number of months.

Ryan Christie - doubt

Christie is a doubt to feature on Saturday. Iraola confirmed that he doesn’t feel 100% in his body and that he won’t risk the midfielder until he is confident that his body can withstand the demands.

Newcastle United injury news v Bournemouth

Will Osula - out

An ankle injury has kept Osula sidelined since November and whilst he is working his way back to fitness, the clash against Bournemouth at the weekend will come too soon for him.

Dan Burn - out

Burn will miss facing the Cherries as he continues his recovery from the injury he suffered in the Wear-Tyne derby last month. Burn is expected to be sidelined for a couple more weeks with a return towards the end of the month pencilled in for the defender.

Emil Krafth - out

Krafth hasn’t featured for Newcastle United since the beginning of November. There had been hope that he would be able to return around the new year, but that date keeps getting pushed back.

Fabian Schar - out

Schar suffered a very serious looking injury on Wednesday night as he left the pitch on a stretcher following a tangle of legs with Dominic Calvert-Lewin. An update on his fitness is awaited but it appears that he is set for a long spell on the sidelines.

Anthony Elanga - doubt

Elanga has missed Newcastle United’s last four games after picking up a knee injury during their draw with Chelsea last month. He missed the win against Leeds United on Wednesday night but could be back in time to face Bournemouth.
