‘Prove the manager wrong’ - Lewis Hall reveals Newcastle United motivation after big career announcement
Lewis Hall earned a well-deserved recall to the England setup when Thomas Tuchel announced his squad on Friday.
Lewis Hall has admitted he is “buzzing” after being recalled to the England setup for the upcoming international break.
Newcastle United supporters were perplexed when the 22-year-old missed out on Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the World Cup. It was a bitter blow for Hall - arguably the club’s best player last season.
A summer of speculation linked him with a move to Manchester United but Toon sources insisted he was going nowhere. Hall has started the season well, penning a contract extension last week and now returning to the England fold.

‘I’m buzzing’ - Lewis Hall
Speaking to the club website, Hall - looking to add to his four senior caps - opened up about putting the summer setback behind him as he aimed to prove Tuchel wrong. He said: “Obviously, I’m buzzing with it. I’m very proud to be back in the squad. (It was) disappointing what happened in the summer but I’ve put that behind me, started the new season fresh, started fairly well, I’d say.

“I’m just really happy to be back. I found out this morning with a text message from one of the (FA) player liaisons. I was really proud when that came through. It’s always a motivation when you miss out on something.
“There’s two ways you can look at it. You can go into your shell, hide, not be yourself and push for more or you can do the opposite, go for more and prove the manager wrong. I’ve tried to do (that) with my own individual performances.”
Lewis Hall on new contract
Last week, Hall expressed his excitement at penning a contract extension until 2031. He said: “I'm absolutely delighted. It's a really proud moment. It's an absolute pleasure to play for this club and to represent the supporters. I know how much it means to them.
“The fanbase and the support we get here, whether it's at St. James’ Park or away, it's the best in the league in my opinion. To be able to bring joy to their faces, it's a big thing for me.
“I obviously have a family connection with the club, which is incredibly important to us all. One of the main reasons I play is to make my family proud, and I know how much it means to them to watch me playing for Newcastle United.
“It's a really good place to be. It's really pleasing with how we've started the season, especially with the new gaffer and coaching staff coming in, and I think we can go on to achieve really big things.”
