Newcastle United 'complete' signing of highly-rated forward from League One club
Newcastle United are said to have added further talents to their youth ranks.
Newcastle United have reportedly continued to add young talent to their academy ranks by capturing a promising forward from League One club Peterborough United.
The Magpies have already enjoyed a productive summer at youth level after the likes of Everton prospect Aaron Epia, West Ham United winger Ezra Tika-Lemba and Clevedon Town forward Jayden Lucas all moved to the North East after agreeing full-time scholarships. A deal was also completed for FK Jedinstvo prospect Miodrag Pivas and the Serbian youngster was immediately sent on a season-long loan deal with Willem II - although the 19-year-old is yet to feature for the Eredivisie outfit. Newcastle have continued to cast their net far and wide to land promising talents and a report has now revealed the Magpies have completed the addition of Peterborough’s Under-15s forward Leon Mukumbira.
Posting on social media outlet X (formerly Twitter), the Secret Scout said: “BOOM! Newcastle have completed the signing of U15 attacker Leon Mukumbira from Peterborough. The search for top talent in English academies continues.” A photo of the youngster at the Magpies academy was also posted.
The moves to boost the youth playing ranks have been matched behind the scenes during what has been an increasingly hectic summer for the Magpies academy. Former Gateshead and Whitley Bay winger Chris Moore stepped into a role as Under-18s lead coach, with James Marwood was brought in from Middlesbrough to assist as Under-18s player development coach. Jack Brazil and Ian Skinner landed respective roles as Under-16s and Under-14s lead coaches and Graeme Coulson has become Under-15s lead coach. Former Gateshead and Forest Green Rovers star James Montgomery is now Under-13s to Under-16s goalkeeper coach and Ben Ascroft was appointed as Professional Development Phase goalkeeper coach.
Some familiar faces arrived as ‘sessional coaches’ with former first-team coach Paul Barron returning to Tyneside as a goalkeeper coach mentor and sessional coach and former Sunderland and Leeds United midfielder Liam Bridcutt was also appointed as a sessional coach. At the most senior level of the academy, Neil Winskill and Jack Ross have continued to take interim charge of the Under-21s following the departure of Ben Dawson to Premier League rivals Leicester City.
