Newcastle United dealt fresh injury concern at Everton

Everton v Newcastle United: Matthias Jaissle’s side have suffered a fresh injury blow during the Carabao Cup last-16 clash at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Newcastle United have been dealt a fresh injury concern during Thursday’s Carabaso Cup last-16 match at Everton.

Matthias Jaissle made just one change from Sunday’s 2-0 win at Crystal Palace with Jacob Ramsey coming into the side in place of Joelinton. William Osula kept his place up front having returned to the starting line-up for the first time since the opening day of the season.

The 23-year-old suffered a foot injury against Liverpool back in Augsut which ultimately sidelined him for two months. After scoring on his return to the starting line-up against Palace, Osula has been dealt a fresh blow.

The striker was on the receiving end of a challenge by Everton defender James Tarkowski as he attempted to get a shot away inside the penalty area. He then remained down and left the pitch to receive treatment before returning to the field.

Osula limped on for the remainder of the first half before being withdrawn at half-time with Newcastle trailing 2-0 following goals from James Garner and Hayden Hackney. Yoane Wissa came on in place of the striker with Joelinton and Anthony Elanga also brought on in place of Jacob Ramsey and Harvey Barnes.

Newcastle face Everton next up in the Premier League at St James’ Park on Monday night where Jaissle will be hoping to have Osula available. Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Lewis Miley missed the match at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and will be doubts for Monday’s match, while Ewen Jaouen and Tino Livramento remain out.
